Tracing its heritage back to the original SL of the of the 1950's the R107 model (Mercedes-Benz internal designation) was the manufacturers third generation of the model and was introduced in 1971, replacing the 'Pagoda' (W113 model) SL, built '63-71. The first model, the SL350, was highly regarded and saw, for the first time, a V8 engine being installed into the SL and its sister model, the SLC (a 2+2 Coupe version).
During its 18 year production Mercedes introduced a number of engine variants into the model range, the smallest being a 2.8 litre in-line six cylinder through to a 5.6 litre V8 engine and despite a small number of styling revisions the model remained relatively unchanged, but sold exceptionally well, with just under 240,000 units sold.
In fantastic condition this, August 1983 (fitted with a cherished number plate valued @ £1000) Mercedes-Benz 500SL has covered just 93k miles and comes with the following specification:

Much loved, this 500SL has been lavished with care and attention by its previous keeper, a classic car collector from who we bought the car as he was 'thinning' his collection. The SL has clearly had much work carried out, the paint work has a flawless finish, and with her fully refurbished 'Bundt' alloys and new Mohair soft-top this SL would happily grace any collection.
Since coming into our portfolio we've fully inspected the car, carried out a full service, she's had new discs / pads fitted all round and out on the open road the wonderful 5 litre V8 performs as expected, an effortless distant V8 burble, there's no doubting that Mercedes Benz 500SL has to be one of the ultimate 70/80's classics.
