SOLD AT THE SHOW
Designed under the eagle eye of Sir Alex Issigonis, most famous for the BMC Mini, the Morris Minor first made its appearance at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show. Initially available as a two-door saloon and tourer / convertible, the Minor (built between 1948 and 1972) saw development during 3 phases in the cars life: the MM ('48-53) with it's low-lights, split-screen front window and side valve engine; the series II ('52-56) saw the introduction of the 'A' series engine and in '52 the estate or Traveller version was introduced with its external wooden structured body being fitted to the front (saloon body) at the MG plant in Abingdon as the Morris Cowley plant could no longer cater for body-on-frame built vehicles. In 1956 the Minor 1000 was introduced, the two-piece front screen now being replaced by a curved one-piece windscreen, an increase in engine capacity to 948cc, the original semaphore indicators now being changed for the more modern front / rear flasher units and in 1962, although retaining the Minor 1000 name, the car saw some of its biggest changes with an improved 'A' series engine, improved braking / gearbox and improved interior styling.
Sold new in June 1955 and finished in Dove Grey, with contrasting red interior, we're delighted to offer this wonderful Series 2 Morris Minor Split Screen. With only 4 previous keepers and the having been owned by the same owner for 15 years prior to change of keepership in 2018 she has been lovingly restored and features many original NOS parts, the exterior / interior & engine bay detailing is simply superb. In addition she comes comes with a great history file too, invoices for parts supplied over the decades (indeed some invoices date back to 1958 when she was sold by WJ Reyonlds Motors Ltd to a Mr Kenneth Dines for sum of £475), MOT certificates and its wonderful to find such an example that comes with an original Owners Manual and 'Morris Minor, Maintenance Service Voucher Book' too.
Mechanically in excellent order and having traveled less than 1000 miles in the last 15 years this Series 2 Morris Minor is joy to drive. With the smallest amount of 'choke' needed and on pulling the "S" Starter pull, the 800cc 'A' series engine starts easily and pulls sweetly through all gears and the MM will happily sing along down country lanes, the exhaust giving its unique 'waspy' rasp during gear-changes.
Often a weak point on many Morris Minor rebuilds we're delighted to say the panel gaps are consistent and even around the car. Her Dove Grey bodywork is wonderful, free from blemishes, the chrome and paint having a wonderful lustrous shine, she really is a show stopper! On opening the door, the driver and passengers are met with a beautifully restored and detailed red leather interior, in wonderful condition with all the switches having a quality feel, it's great to turn the indicator switch on and watching the semaphore pop-up from the 'B' pillar, light illuminated. A beautiful place to be and whisking you back to a time gone by the Minor may be relatively small by modern car standards but they offer a good amount of interior space with a bright and airy feel, the ideal classic for young & old and ready for day trips, weekends away or just enjoying as she is.
One of the nicest Morris Minors we've seen and being the rarer Split Screen model the car comes with a great history file, her original Owners Handbook, a workshop manual and will be fully serviced and MOT'd ahead of delivery. A delight to drive, well cared for, easy to maintain and in beautiful condition this Morris Minor Series 2 Split Screen offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy classic British motoring, we know if you see her, you'll fall in love with her too.
