Replacing the front wheel drive (FWD) Triumph 1300, the Toledo was a British Leyland built compact family saloon manufactured between 1970 and 1976. Maintaining similar styling cues from the FWD 1300, apart from a revised grill and rear light design, the biggest change between the two cars was that the Toledo saw the move to rear wheel drive with live rear axle, helping to reduce overall production costs. Thankfully the Toledo retained much of the Triumph 1300's interior charm, with a wooden dash, deep pile carpets and with comfortable supportive seats the Toledo could easily accommodate 4 adults with space and luggage carrying capacity to spare.
Delivered to its first, and only, owner on the 15th August 1974, this remarkable Triumph Toledo shows an entirely genuine 2361 miles from new! Finished in Honeysuckle with Chestnut interior the Toledo is presented in entirely original condition, she has never been restored, never received any paint, she is without doubt the most original example in existence.
Walking around the car one can't help but be astounded by the condition of the bodywork. The paintwork has a wonderful sheen, as it left the factory some 45 years ago, there are some minor imperfections from long term storage, she was quite literally wrapped in a blanket for a 10 year period, but she can only be original once and we would lot rather a potential future owner saw her in her entirely original condition. Chromework, rubbers, glass etc are all unmarked and the car naturally still wears her original Goodyear Radial tyres.
Opening the door, which notably closes with the lightest of touches, the Chestnut interior can only be described in 'as new' condition, so remarkable in fact the all 4 doors still retain their factory protective clear vinyl coverings, there's little else to say ....... she's only done 2361 miles in 45 years!
Mechanically the car has naturally seen very little use, the history file (original bills of sale from Bambers, Liverpool, along with Owners manual, Passport to Service, Radiomobile operating instruction and 2 sets of keys are included) shows the car has only had 3 MOT's in its 45 year existence. That said we know the car has been started on a regular basis and since coming to us, we've spent in excess of £1000 recommissioning the car for further road use. As such this amazing Toledo starts on the button, the 1296cc engine runs with a whisper quiet hum and driving the car is just a real delight and pleasure.
Unrepeatable and remarkable in every way, we don't think there will be another Toledo like this and knowing that she's been fully prepared for future road use (she'll also come with 12 months MOT) we know that the future owner will own a completely unique car, perfect for weekend classic car meets, where others too will be astonished at this delightful 2361 mile classic.
